Paul Lay - Dean of MenIn his mid-forties, Paul Lay was a member of a good church, was happily married, had a good paying job, and was looking forward to many more years of the same. Like most Christians today, he was a great performer, going to church most of the time and attending most church activities. He was saved and on his way to heaven, but not living for God at all. Little did he know that it would only took one bad choice to almost ruin my life and the lives of my loved ones. Due to a simple surgery that required pain medication after it, Paul slowly became dependent on this medication to the point where he went to the street to buy it illegally. This led to missing work, lack of concern about others, especially his family who never knew about the addiction. Soon the addiction progressed to heroine. Paul proceeded to lose his job, family, and dignity. After living in my truck for two to three weeks doing whatever to get high, he made a decision that it was time to end it all. What he didn’t know was that he had an army of prayer warriors on their face before God, asking him to reach down and pick him up and change his life forever. At the age of fifty-four Paul enrolled in the Reformers Unanimous Men’s School of Discipleship. In that six months, Paul received blessing after blessing and a walk with a true Friend who will never leave or forsake him, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He found victory from my addictions that has given joy unspeakable. After graduation, Paul worked on staff for his church for two years before returning to Rockford to become the dean of men for the Discipleship Homes.
